National Honor for Pastor Rudy Rasmus
Rudy Rasmus, pastor of St. John’s Downtown, is a national finalist for the prestigious Jefferson Award, which is considered the Nobel Prize of public service. Known as Pastor Rudy, he will be recognized in Washington on Tuesday for his leadership in eradicating homelessness, hunger and HIV in downtown Houston. Past local winners of national Jefferson Awards include the Rev. Herschel Smith in 1993 for his work with the homeless and Harris County Constable Victor Trevino in 1999 for cleaning up crime in his precinct.
